Anxiety is often nothing more than a negative thought pattern designed to keep you in a state of panic or survival. If we can correct the thought patterns to be more realistic and appropriate given the situations; we can better deal with the emotions of fear and stress. As a therapist, the goal is to help the client live a less anxious lifestyle and to provide the tools and skills for you to do so. Stress and worry are a normal part of life, but anxiety takes it to the next level and can sometimes feel like a loss of control. When you lose control, there is a good chance that the problem is going to get worse, before it gets better. Here are a few tips to help you slow things down and allow you to be mindful:

  1. Recognize– Recognize your thoughts, feelings, and any physical sensations. Allow yourself to sit with it and be present.
  2. Allow– Allow your thoughts and feeling to go as they are. Do not hold judgement. “It is okay in this moment.”
  3. Investigate– Investigate the thoughts and feelings. See where they are coming from. How are you experiencing these feeling and thoughts.
  4. Nurture- Nurture yourself through the experience and learn from it and give grace to it. Give yourself some love.
